Every pedicab operator in San Diego must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in California. The license must be in good standing, issued from the Department of Motor Vehicles, and be in the riders possession at all time while operating the pedicab. |

San Diego Business Tax Certificate |

Also known as a Business License, this will allow you to legally operate a business in San Diego. You must provide a valid address of operation, and pay a fee depending on the location of that address. You can either pay the fees at the time you file the application, or pay within 30 days of issue date. |

Each year that the business is in operation, you will be charged the fees, and they must be paid in order to maintain your compliant status with the City of San Diego. |

The Business Tax Certificate can be obtained by appearing in person at the San Diego City Small Business office, located at 1200 Third Avenue, Suite 1400 (at the end of B Street). |

Two (2) Passport Style Photos |

Each pedicab operator must obtain two passport sized photos - one is for your actual pedicab permit, and the other is for the city to keep on file. You can obtain these at any Kinko's location in San Diego. |

There is a Kinko's located on Fifth Ave. and C St., right next to the San Diego trolley line. The fee is $15 and the photos are taken on-site and ready in about 10 minutes. |

The last step is to go to the Traffic & Engineering Department and apply for your HPV permit. You will need to bring your Driver License, the 2 passport photos, your business license and a non-refundable fee of $25. |
